Finding Forever Homes for the homeless animals of Fayette County, IL

Second Chance Animal Rescue of Fayette County, located in Vandalia, Illinois, is an all volunteer, federally recognized 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2004. Our primary goal is to rescue cats and dogs from cases of abuse and neglect.

Second Chance Animal Rescue of Fayette County is funded solely by private donations and fund raising events. Second Chance does not receive any local, state or federal funding. Our largest expenditure comes from providing the necessary veterinary care the animals require including surgeries, spay/neutering, vaccinations, and more.

Animal Care

Animals are provided with all necessary veterinary care from the time they arrive at Second Chance. All animals are checked for internal parasites, fleas, and ear mites, then given treatments and immunizations as required. Cats and kittens are checked for feline leukemia (In the process of setting up cat adoptions), dogs and puppies are checked for heartworm, and all animals are treated accordingly. Age allowing, ALL ANIMALS ARE SPAYED/NEUTERED PRIOR TO ADOPTION.

Housing

Animals are placed with Second Chance foster families and our  Animal Shelter. Foster families are Second Chance volunteers who generously open their homes to animals in need. The animals are provided with a caring, nurturing atmosphere to facilitate their well-being. While in foster care or at our shelter, we gain an understanding of the animals' needs and their personality traits. Foster homes work with adoption coordinators to match the animals with suitable permanent families.
